Malmsbury, Kyneton Metcalfe Road - Windmill Bridge

The Windmill Bridge, located over the Campaspe River at Kyneton-Metcalfe Road on the border of Kyneton and Malmsbury, was a bluestone and timber bridge named for the beautiful historic windmill farm which is situated in the adjacent field.

Unfortunately, the bridge was largely destroyed as a result of a recent severe storm event. Following a successful insurance claim, this project – to be delivered a part of Council’s 2024-25 Capital Works Program – includes:

  • recovering and storing the bridge decking that was damaged in the storms for future use
  • investigating if the bluestone abutments are suitable for use as viewing platform
  • trimming vegetation and clearing the waterway
  • further investigation and stakeholder engagement about improving the bridge site for recreational and historical purposes.

The project is currently in the investigation stage and we are talking to stakeholders about the scope of works. Further updates will be published here when available.

We would like to thank everyone for their patience while we complete this project.
