Bin inspections
Council performs regular bin inspections to provide feedback for residents and ensure the right things are being placed in the right bins.
The wrong things in the wrong bin can lead to entire truckloads being contaminated and sent to landfill.
Council is committed to reducing waste to landfill by reusing and recycling as many resources as possible. The four-bin kerbside collection service is designed to help the community separate and sort materials.
The bin inspection program is part of a broader education program that will help the community work together to reduce emissions.
If you received a tag on your bin, it could be for a few different reasons—see the images below of the different tags you may receive.
The tag will be marked with the problem; e.g. polystyrene in recycling bin, rubbish in glass-only bin, bin overloaded or compacted.
Remove the item/fix the issue and call (03) 5422 0333 to discuss options for your bin. Council will not collect a contaminated bin until the next scheduled collection cycle.
After your bin has been collected you can tear off the cardboard tag and place it in your recycling bin.
