Environment Volunteers
Environment volunteers are given the opportunity to gain an understanding of, and experience in, a range of natural environment and sustainability programs and activities, including:
- flora surveys and revegetation in conservation areas
- roadside weed audits
- preparing brochures, posters, flyers and eNews articles
- fauna monitoring, e.g. with nestboxes, remote cameras, bird surveys and frog surveys
You can get involved with the environment volunteer program, or community-organised volunteer program.
To find out more:
- Subscribe to the monthly Environment eNews to keep up-to-date with all the happenings across the shire.
- Keep an eye on our Environment Events and reach out if you are interested in volunteering at any of our events.
- Find your local environment group, including Landcare, Friends of and environmentally-focused community groups.
- Register your interest to volunteer.
You can also volunteer your time to contribute to citizen science by recording your plant and animal sightings as part of your day-to-day life through apps like iNaturalist.
Some experience in an environmental field may be required depending on the tasks involved. Please note that volunteer positions may not always be available depending on the existing work program and capacity.
Why volunteer?
Volunteer with us and you will experience some of the personal benefits that come with being a volunteer. You'll learn more about plants and wildlife, gain new skills, get outdoors, improve your health and wellbeing and meet new friends. Time spent in nature also reduces stress and promotes physical well-being.
