Community events and temporary signs
Event organisers can apply to install temporary signage at designated locations throughout the shire to promote an upcoming event or activity in the shire.
Temporary sign rules and regulations
Both VicRoads and Council are responsible for regulating the placement and display of temporary community event signs on roadsides in the Macedon Ranges.
Council’s Community Local Law 2023(PDF, 1MB) (Part 2, Clause 11) stipulates that a person must not, without a permit, place moveable or temporary advertising signs on Council land or on a road.
The temporary community event signage rules are designed to reduce sign clutter and ensure the safety of all road users by minimising any line-of-sight issues. The location of the poles was audited by VicRoads and each set has been positioned to ensure safe viewing for drivers either on the road or entering such.
Passengers in passing vehicles have approximately two seconds to read the sign, hence, signs must be clear and concise.
Penalties may apply under the Road Management Act 2004 if anyone erects a sign on an arterial road without written consent from VicRoads.
Installing and removing temporary event signage
Signs can only be installed a maximum of two weeks prior to the event and must be removed within two days of completion, unless otherwise approved by Council.
The sign posts are close to three metres in height. You will require a ladder to install the signs at the top of the posts to be compliant.
Signs must be produced by a professional sign writer and approved by Council.
