Mount Macedon - Clarke Street footbridge

In 2023, Council assessed a timber footbridge located at Clarke St, Mount Macedon as unsafe for pedestrian use due to structural concerns.

Initially barricades and additional warning signs were installed, but after the barricades continued to be removed, the footbridge was removed completely to ensure public safety while we explored options for repairs or replacement of the crossing.

At the Council Meeting in May 2024, the business case for the reinstatement of a new Clarke St bridge was approved.

We are committed to delivering this project as soon as possible. We will need to obtain legislative and other approvals involving Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation, and water catchment and planning authorities, followed by a subsequent procurement process. Consequently, it will take some time before any visible on-site activity occurs.

Project dates will be published on this page closer to the start date.

As an alternative route during this time, walk along Mount Macedon Road and Brougham Road. We appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience, but we prioritise the safety and wellbeing of users above all else.
