Romsey, Stawell Street – road reconstruction

Preparations are underway for works to reconstruct another key section of sealed road in Romsey, providing a smoother journey for road users and improving safety for pedestrians.

Following a similar upgrade of a section of Murphy Street in Romsey last year, Stawell Street in Romsey will be upgraded between Main Street and Pohlman Street, with works to include:

  • 130m of road pavement reconstruction
  • installation of a raised safety platform at the Main Street intersection
  • Footpath and kerb and channel renewal on north side within the limit of works
  • upgrades to the Pohlman and Stawell Street intersection, along with signage, line marking, and drainage improvements

Works are expected to get underway in mid-May and be completed by end of June 2025, weather permitting.

Traffic management, signage and detours will be in place during the works, with the relevant section of Stawell Street to be temporarily closed to vehicles. The service road along Main Street will remain open for most of these works but will also be impacted at times.

The contractor will work closely with directly impacted businesses and residents, to ensure access is maintained for deliveries/bin collections/property access as necessary.

These works are funded as part of Council’s 2024-25 Capital Works Program and funded through the Australian Government’s Roads To Recovery Program.

Thank you for your patience while we complete the infrastructure upgrade works.
