Woodend, High Street Service Lane - Pedestrian safety improvement

The Victorian Government is investing $23 million as part of the Safe System Pedestrian Infrastructure Program (SSIP), to improve safety at popular activity areas for pedestrians and other vulnerable road users. These upgrades are being delivered by Council in partnership with the Victorian Government as we continue to work to deliver safer, connected journeys in Victoria.

Pedestrians are completely exposed to the full force of a collision, making them one of our most vulnerable road users. Infrastructure plays a vital role in preventing serious crashes, while also helping to reduce the severity of crashes when they’re unavoidable.

Pedestrian safety is proposed to be improved in a popular activity area in Woodend, by installing a wombat crossing and completing other associated works on the north side of the service lane adjacent to High Street (near the existing pedestrian-operated signal crossing).

The project has been awarded, and the contractor is awaiting approval from the Department of Transport to start work on site. Construction dates will be published closer to the start date.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of April 2025.
