Can I use a liner in my bin?
You may find that you do need to line this bin as waste must be wrapped to minimise windblown litter at the disposal facility.
You can choose to use compostable or biodegradable bin liners in your household bins to minimise environmental impact, however plastic bags can also be used.
Find out your bin collection day
Your 140 litre rubbish/general waste bin (red lid) is collected fortnightly, on the alternating week to your recycling bin (yellow lid).
Your collection day and the bins you need to put out for collection each week depend on the area that you live in.
Search your address online to find out when your next bin collection day is and download a calendar.
Need a larger bin?
You can choose to upgrade your rubbish/general waste bin to a larger 240 litre bin. An annual fee of $185 applies in addition to the standard waste charge (unless you are eligible for a medical exemption as outlined below).
Before you choose to upgrade to a larger bin, we have discovered that many residents can avoid upgrading by sorting their waste more effectively. We are here to help, to discuss ways to reduce your waste bin and avoid extra disposal fees contact our Resource Recovery Team on (03) 5422 0333.
To request a bin upgrade, complete a bin upgrade request form
One upgrade from a 140 litre to a 240 litre general waste bin is permitted per tenement. If extra general waste bins are required, additional 140 litre bins are available.
Special consideration exemption
You may be eligible to upgrade to a larger rubbish/general waste bin at no extra cost. To find out more visit order bins and bin charges.
