Reducing your waste

Did you know that each year in the Macedon Ranges Shire we send approximately nine million kilograms of waste to landfill?

This would fill approximately 37 Olympic swimming pools, or 185 heated lap pools at the Gisborne Aquatic Centre.

When waste ends up in landfill it sits buried in the ground for decades, releasing methane and other greenhouse gases.

By sorting your waste correctly you can minimise the amount being sent to landfill. By recycling as much as possible, you can help recycle valuable resources like food and garden waste, paper and cardboard.

Council, residents, businesses and schools all have a part to play in reducing the amount of waste being sent to landfill. We can all make a difference by following the ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ philosophy.
