Sister City Relationship
Macedon Ranges Shire Council signed the original Sister City Relationship Agreement with Tokai City Council, Aichi Prefecture, Japan on 16 October 2014. The aim of the agreement was to promote a mutual understanding and an enduring fellowship and friendship.
The relationship agreement is assessed every five years and was renewed in 2019. The agreement includes an action plan to guide the activities of each Council. The three pillars of the agreement are:
- Culture: to facilitate a better understanding of our differences, similarities and values with ongoing respect for each other
- Education: to enhance the knowledge of our young people, businesses and staff through the support and provision of personal and professional development opportunities
- Commerce: to share our knowledge and expertise in trade and tourism to identify and explore economic development opportunities.
The two regions enhance the relationship through a variety of events, including the participation in the opening ceremony of Tokai City Arts Theatre and a series of cultural exchanges including local students, sports clubs and Council staff.
Whilst international travel remains restricted, all actions in the Sister City Agreement are on hold.
