Picking up after your dog

No one likes stepping in doggie doo, whether it’s on a sports field, footpath, or other public space.

Picking up after your dog is your responsibility and helps our community by:

  • ensuring children using playgrounds and people using sporting grounds can play without the risk of landing in doggy doo.
  • reducing the risk of other dogs or people getting sick (noting some dogs can carry worms and diseases).
  • reducing the risk of dog poo contaminating our soil and our waterways.
  • ensuring our staff can maintain our open spaces safely without the risk of dog poo contamination themselves.

So, please always carry a supply of poo bags, dispose of collected waste in a bin, or when there is no bin nearby, please take it with you to dispose of at home.

People who don’t pick up after their dog or fail to carry a suitable device for the collection of dog poo from that dog risk an on the spot fine.

Dog poo bag dispensers in local parks

Oops, did you forget your poo bags or run out on your walk? Some Council reserves have dog poo bag dispensers. This does not replace the need for dog owners to carry their own poo bags, but may help when in need. Poo bag dispensers can be found in the following parks and reserves to cater for these emergencies.

Dog owners are encouraged to take only what they need on the day (noting dispensers are refilled once per week) and remember their own poo bags for their next dog outing.
