Trees and powerlines

Each year from October to December, we undertake vegetation clearance works around powerlines in the declared areas of Gisborne and Kyneton.

Powercor is responsible for pruning vegetation within the shire outside of Gisborne and Kyneton, with Jemena responsible for Gisborne South.

These important works ensure compliance with the Electricity Safety (Electric Line Clearance) Regulations 2020 and are essential in reducing the risk of fires.

The minimum clearance distance for vegetation pruning away from powerlines is dictated by the voltage, the span distance between powerpoles/structures and the fire hazard rating of the area.

Council’s Electric Line Clearance Management Plan is reviewed annually, and provides additional detail on the management responsibilities, procedures, and practices to be observed relating to vegetation clearance in the vicinity of electric lines in Gisborne and Kyneton.
