Mend it with Love, with author, Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald

Next date: Friday, 21 March 2025 | 12:30 PM to 03:00 PM

Do you have a favourite item of clothing with a horrible hole or oil stain, rendering it unwearable?

Give it some love using paint, yarn, or fabric – whatever your garment needs to make it wearable and lovable again.

In this workshop, author Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald will guide you through a few fun mending methods, including darning, patching and stamping.

Heart-shaped mends are optional but super fun – especially on the seats of kid pants.

Skill level

Beginner-intermediate. No mending experience is required, and the class can be made more challenging for experienced menders.

Tools and materials

Mending supplies will be available to use and to purchase, or you are welcome to bring your own. If you have a particular thread or fabric you’d like to incorporate, please bring it along.

What to bring

Clothing or other textiles in need of TLC – tea towels, socks and kid clothes are ideal. If you don’t have anything in need of mending or rejuvenating (lucky you!) you can practise with fabric scraps.

Teacher bio

Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald is Australia’s leading clothes-mending practitioner. Her book Modern Mending – which celebrates colour, creativity, and the art of making clothes better than new – is in its third printing. An enthusiastic teacher, she also runs mending-supply shop and works as a mender for hire. Since becoming a mother, she spends way too much time battling the constant clothing holes and stains that small people create.
