RAR National Conference - Opening Event - Communities Shaping Changes
Next date: Friday, 11 October 2024 | 07:00 PM
The opening event of the Rural Australians for Refugees (RAR) bi-annual conference at the Kyneton Town Hall is set to be a very special event, with Behrouz Boochani as the feature speaker.
Behrouz Boochani is a Kurdish-Iranian journalist, human rights defender, writer and film producer living in New Zealand. He was held in the Australian-run Manus Island detention centre in Papua New Guinea from 2013 until its closure in 2017.
About the conference
Australians for Refugees are working to create communities shaping change through fostering inclusion and support for refugees and their rights.
The 2024 Conference will bring together refugee activists and supporters, especially from regional Australia, for inspiration and to share experiences. We will learn from each other about our shared values and collective action.
The conference will amplify our voices, and promote justice and safety for asylum-seekers and refugees.
It is held every two years – this year from the evening of Friday 11 October through to Sunday 13 October.
The conference continues with plenary and workshop sessions on Saturday and Sunday at Sacred Heart College. Mostafa Azimitabar and Farhad Bandesh will join for the Saturday evening showing of Freedom is Beautiful.
