Grass mowing
Our Open Space and Recreation team are responsible for mowing grass on Council-owned and managed land.
To report long grass on Council land, use the general enquiries and feedback form or call our customer service team on (03) 5422 0333.
With the exception of our street tree program, Council does not undertake any renovation or maintenance of nature strips unless the condition of the nature strip is considered to pose a hazard. It is the responsibility of the resident or occupier to maintain the nature strip which typically involves regular mowing, weeding and picking up litter.
Vegetation works on a resident’s nature strip is only undertaken where Council determines there is a risk to public safety or if it is considered a fire hazard. This is to ensure a clear ‘line of sight’ between pedestrians, vehicles and other road users at driveways, road curves and intersections.
Council may elect to undertake minor maintenance and mowing of township nature strips on main roads.
We are aware many residents like the concept of a low maintenance nature strip outside their property and wish to contribute to the beautification of the streetscape within the shire. Our Nature Strip Landscaping Policy provides information for residents considering permissible alternatives to nature strips other than grass. Residents undertaking landscape treatments to nature strips must adhere to this policy and related guidelines.
