Hanging Rock is open seven days a week, 9am – 5pm.
Last entry 3:30pm. All visitors must have exited the park before 5pm.
The reserve is closed on Christmas Day and on Catastrophic Fire Danger days in Central District.

The Hanging Rock Discovery Centre is open until 30 minutes prior to the park closing time.
Getting there
139 South Rock Road, Woodend VIC 3442
Hanging Rock is located about one hour's drive (80kms) north of Melbourne. It is easily accessed from either:
- the Calder Freeway (A79), by turning off at the Woodend, Lancefield, Romsey (C324) exit and follow the Hanging Rock directional signage.
- via the township of Mount Macedon.
- the Hume Highway (M31), by turning off at Kilmore and travelling through Lancefield or Wallan via Romsey.

Fees and annual passes
Reasonable entry fees apply when visiting Hanging Rock. 100 per cent of all income received is used for the maintenance, development and care of this unique and natural Australian icon.
Fees
- $10 per car
- $5 per motorbike
- $5 per pedestrian
- $20 per minibus
- $50 per coach
Fees are payable before leaving the reserve. There is a ticket machine located outside the cafe that accepts cash and credit cards. You will need to scan this ticket at the gate when leaving the reserve.
Separate entry fees apply on specific event days such as race meetings, concerts, car display and other selected events.
Access to the Summit Walk is not permitted on days where winds over 40km/h are forecast by the Bureau of Meteorology. The reserve and picnic areas are still open on these days, and the café hours will be unchanged.
Annual passes
If you visit Hanging Rock often, you can purchase an annual pass.
The pass will allow to access to the Rock during normal opening hours, excluding major event days.
If the pass is purchased:
- prior to 30 Sept 2024: $90
- between 1 Oct 2024–31 Dec 2024: $67.50
- between 1 Jan 2025–30 Apr 2025: $45
- between 1 May 2025–30 June 2026 (valid for 14 months): $90
Application form
Dogs
Your dog/s are welcome at the reserve (excluding major event days) but they must be kept on a leash at all times. Dogs are not permitted to ascend the Rock on the Summit Walk as it is home to many native animals.
Film shoots and drone filming
Hanging Rock is a popular location for commercial film shoots and filming with drones.
Film shoot permissions are assessed on an individual basis. Email hangingrock@mrsc.vic.gov.au for all filming requests.
